Freiraum Kunst

Christian Awe’s artistic practice emerged in post-reunification East Berlin, where public space was being occupied by graffiti artists. With his large-scale murals in urban space, Awe has since pursued the aim of breaking open urban structures and democratizing art as part of everyday life. A lettering piece designed by Awe marks the temporary appropriation of Schloss Bellevue: in a gesture between intervention and occupation, he places the motto “Freiraum Kunst” on the roof of the building.
